Holiday Greetings, Keith!

A 3" tuning pin doesn't exactly sound like an off-the-shelf item, at
least in my experience. So the question becomes one of how badly do you
need the pins and how much are you willing to pay for them? A top-
notch machinst/tool and die maker should be able to custom-fabricate
a set for you and let you specify the length and diameter of the pin, the
length and coarseness of the thread and even the exact placement of the
becket hole. Bluing should be no problem either, HOWEVER they won't be in-
expensive. For most of the years I was rebuilding old pianos and player
mechanisms, I had such a machinist to turn to when I needed an obsolete
or non-commercially-available part custom-fabricated, He saved my you-
know-what countless times, and his services were worth every penny he
charged. EVERY tech who routinely works at rebuilding old (and some
not-so-old) pianos should find and cultivate a relationship with such
a person. Sooner or later they ARE going to need the services of such
a specialist. I even had mine fabricate a couple of drilling guides to
aid in drilling out the stubs from agraffes which had broken off in-
side the plate. Fortunately, I didn't have to use them very often, but
when I did, I sure was glad I had them!

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year!
