Dear List and Mr. Fischer, Even though the hammers on your job had been installed haphazardly.....it is likely that you would still be able to make some accessment of the propper location of the strike point for this particular piano. With the action in place in the piano, test note 88 by moving it in or out slightly as you play the note, listening for the "sweet spot" as you do. You must determine which notes from 88 down are hitting its propper strike point...by sound.... while the action is in its natural rest position. Make notations as to which notes are correct and use them as guides. Usually the notes closest to the breaks will do well for guides. Factory measurements will get ya close....proofs in da puddin!
