Ted,

I know a real sneaky way. If you can access your messages remotely,
leave your outgoing message the way it is and call in periodically while
away. Or, if you would prefer not to think about the business while
you're climbing Mt. Everest, consider hiring someone or asking a
friend/relative to mind the store while you're away. Then that person
can schedule the appointment or suggest an alternate technician.
