Dear list: Am regulating a S&S grand action that looks normal in every respect except there is no jack regulating button. It is obvious that felt in the repetition lever jack slot (the hammer end of the slot) determines the at rest position of the jack. Probably original felt still there. Can't find a serial number so don't know how old the piano is. Felt looks good but has compresed so the jacks are too far forward. In that position the heel of the jack (or is it the toe or shoulder) wacks the let off button when the repetition is adjusted to do its job, making a noise that I know will be complained about. If I extend the thickness of the jack rest felt with flange bushing cloth (the thinest cloth I have) the wacking stops but the jack to knuckle relationship looks scarry, being a hairs breath forward of the keyboard side of the knuckle post. Even so, pounding the key showed the jack to be getting back under the knuckle and doing its job on the one key with which I was experimenting. Question: Do any of you have a way of regulating the jack that is better than my approach. Problem is I have to finish this job tomorrow, the 9th, because movers are comming Saturday to take it away. BTW the knuckles are new. Several years ago someone installed new hammers, shanks and flanges, and I don't think the piano has been played more than an hour or two since. They forgot (?) to shape, travel and align the hammers. Figure that one. But even if you can't get back to me by tomorrow, tell me anyway. I, or someone else, may encounter this problem again. Thanks for any comments. Travis
