Regarding the model B grand (Steinway), in 1992 - 3 the factory incorporated a change in the instrument both to the contour of the soundboard bridge and the contour of the v-bar. The v-bar now has two seperate archs with a step between the two treble areas. The bridge has an increased bend between the agraffe and the v-bar area. It's purpose was to smooth out the scaling in the melodic area of the treble #1 region, which results in a more consistent tonal quality without rehanging hammers. Keep in mind that even when the specs are on, one might acheive the best results on occasion by altering a strike line within a certain area; a method that the Hamburg factory takes more liberty in applying...than in NY. By the way, the Model B with the revised plate and bridge has the number 3 casted into it, near the "moon"....(the tail end). Mike Mohr Steinway factory, NYC
