David, Since I've seen no other responses yet, I'll just jump right in. :-) >I was going back over older messages and deleting when I read >this again. I can't say that I've heard of metric wire sizes. >Should I be ordering metric wire from Mapes? I do know that >what it says on the bridge is a 1/2 size off from what the >micrometer says... > >ilvey Yes. You should have metric wire for, I imagine, all European and Oriental pianos. I'm fairly sure that any piano not made in America uses metric size wire. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Some sizes are the same, but not all. At least on some pianos. I have a comparison list somewhere for Kawai pianos done a few years ago that I got from Ray Chandler showing the similarities. Our lease pianos are Kawai's, so I also have to have metric for those. Soon after I got here, I had to restring the top two sections of our Hamburg D and, without thinking, I used American wire. After I realized what I'd done, I had to order some metric wire and re-restring those two top sections. :-) While I was at it, I went ahead and got the metal cannisters to hold the wire, all from Mapes.
