Dear Mike,
Thanks alot for clarifying this situation. It is amazing how an explanation
of something can get distorted as it is passed along from one person to the
next when they have a "sort-of" grasp of the problem.

<< Regarding the model B grand (Steinway), in 1992 - 3 the factory
incorporated a
change in the instrument both to the contour of the soundboard bridge and
the
 contour of the v-bar.

The v-bar now has two seperate archs with a step between the two treble
areas.
The bridge has an increased bend between the agraffe and the v-bar area.

It's purpose was to smooth out the scaling in the melodic area of the treble
#1
region, which results in a more consistent tonal quality without rehanging
 hammers.

Keep in mind that even when the specs are on, one might acheive the best
results
on occasion by altering a strike line within a certain area; a method that
the
Hamburg factory takes more liberty in applying...than in NY.

By the way, the Model B with the revised plate and bridge has the number 3
casted into it, near the "moon"....(the tail end).
