I can add to the other suggestions .
If the faceure board on the back of the block is soft wood
or a plywood compostion you might want to consider
counter-sinking the carraige bolt into the hardwood underneath.
This will give you a flush surface and reduce the chances of the
crack opening slightly from the tension crushing the wood fibres
around the bolthead.
