In a message dated 98-04-20 13:05:47 EDT, you write: << I have run across several Kimball consoles with the whole bass damper section misaligned. Has anyone else had that problem? What are the best ways to correct the problem? >> There is a piece of material missing from the brass rods that lift the dampers. Take the action out (and tighten the rear flanges while you're at it), and look at that rod assembly which lifts the dampers right at the break between the bass and the low tenor. You will see that the rod is divided (to permit seperate function of the bass dampers). There should be a piece of buckskin that serves as a gasket between the two rods which couple. It has most likely fallen out. You may even find it lying loose in the action or somewhere below in the piano. If not, just use a piece of buckskin that you might use for a backcheck or catcher and glue it in there with some kind of cement (I use "Goo" from Schaff or a hobby store) contact or any other cement or just a very little medium or thick CA glue will work too.
