Interesting question. I confess never to have done this, but have it on very good authority that you can: thoroughly clean the soundboard with Spurlock's soundboard squeegees, (I use those, and they're great) and: Spray the board - through the strings - with denatured alcohol. I assume one would want to be very cautious around the bass strings. Provided the board is varnished, the alcohol will partially dissolve the varnish, and it will float a smooth surface. One assumes it may take a few applications on a really bad lizard skin finish. Obviously, any visible soil on the board will become a permanent part of the finish, so THOROUGHLY clean is emphasized. Anyone tried this? I would appreciate input regarding cleaning and even possibly refinnishing a grand soundboard with the strings allready installed? (Without "lifting" the strings). Sure would be an interesting and money saving solution to this problem in some cases. Keep up the good work everybody!
