Amen to that!  The time 'saved' by not removing them is usually eaten up in the hassle of trying not to, and repairing the virtually inevitable damage that results.  It's the old penny wise/pound foolish scenario.
While they're out, check out the cloth punchings.  Assuming you checked dip before removing the keys, this is your chance to make it play even better, and put another dollar in the retirement fund.
