Dear David, If you consider that Mozart, et al, composed music on their instruments and not for modern instruments then forte pianos are valid for performing their works on forepians. Consider that those instruments have much shorter sustain than modern pianos, the bass was much brighter in the higher harmonics, the touch was much shallower and the actions very fast. All these factors will have an effect upon interpritation and performance of the music makes the exploration of the portepianos strengths and weaknesses worthwhile. After all, the composers knew nothing of the coming changes in pianos. Have a nice week. Newton nhunt@jagat.com
