Cheap adjustable benches are not worth the cost. Pay the same for a superior plain bench from Jensen they are made of all hard hardwoods, but poplar. Adjustable benches, like pianos, need tightening, adjustments, replacement of parts or generally made more comfortable. Recovering with naughajk's hide is less expensive than bovine's hide, but in the case of Jensen benches, he will recover his own benmches, but not others because of his jigs, it is worth while. In case of some of the other rather troublesome machines may not be, worthwhile, that is. A study of the mechanisms will show how to keep them going.
