I'll bet you a nickel (not having been to the sources) the greeks did
have at least diatonic scales, or should have. After all how could
they have discovered the Pythagorean Comma, or the coma of Didimus? 
My other question is how could they have gotten this without a
knowledge of frequency, ie cycles per second?
