That is, they will shear off a strip of the material and use that for brazing rod. The alloys match exactly even when they don't know what they are. This might be difficult in the case of a pedal repair, because you have to get the material from somewhere, but it might be posssible to find a very similar colored piece of brass, bandsaw it into strips, and use that to braze. In any event, the technique is worth remembering. Bill Simon Phoenix
