Oops! hit "send" too soon...to continue, these "wild turks" would have
been the inspiration for the oriental flavor toy boxes so often found on
these old fortepianos, etc.  Definitely a special effects attachment Spike
Jones would have loved. Do ya suppose they marched around banging
cymbals??

Islam (usually captured children or disgruntled, hungry crusaders) who
were employed as soldiers against the crusaders. They wore
characteristic uniforms which included a bizarre headgear and were
reported to be particularly fierce fighters.  And the pay was better.
