Don's comments about Charles Ives' music for pianos tuned 1/4 step apart
reminds me that John Corigliano is coming here for a week, and two
pianists are performing a piece he wrote called "Chiaroscuro", again for
two pianos 1/4 step apart. It's new; I think it's been performed in New
York once, but this will be one of the first performances. I've seen the
score but haven't yet heard the piece. It's quite interesting. Normally,
I'm skeptical of such requests when presented by composition students, but
Corigliano writes really interesting music, and I'm looking forward to it.
The hard thing is finding a place for the pianists to practice! Right now
they're doing it on two pianos tuned together, and I'm waiting for the
signal to detune.

I'll let the list know. Has anyone heard this piece?
