Greetings Jon,
              Inlay a piece of material? Or replace the block with modified
mounting system?
 If you have a problem getting good quality birds eye Maple, try a burled
elm. I recapped a 6' Mason and Risch grand pin block with this material, it
looked wonderful, to the uninitiated it would pass as birds eye maple.
Significantly cheaper to boot.
