For what it's worth, the material Yamaha has used for the hammer butt flange cord has always been cotton. After what can only be described as years of impassioned pleas, manufacturing has agreed to use a more durable cord. This new material (as yet unspecified) will be showing up on butt flanges soon, if it's not already.
