In ET it would not matter if you transposed any particular piece but if you play the WT Clavier music in a true WT and transpose ANY one of the compositions up or down a half step, you will immediately hear that it is innapproriate for that key. The most likely example for how Bach must have tuned are the Kirnburger and Werkmeister WT's.
