DamppChaser does not recommend softened water. Far better to use the hard
water because in *soft* water the calcium ions are replaced with sodium
ions -- you *can* say salt water can't you. LOL! Salt water in a
concentrated form can be quite corrosive.

Personally I no longer sell a DC system without the smart bar. I would
rather loose the sale than risk the alternatives.
