Damper Felt Springs

I have seen too
many pianos messed up by some one stabbing
in the dark.

I can't agree enough. Stabbing in the dark is never a wise approach.
An experienced touch, would upon inspection of the front and balance pins and
key bushings, have no use for further use for additional servicing, if the
problem is solved and the client is satisfied.

With the action in the piano, after the pins (action and key keyframe) proved
reasonable. With the action removed, springs would be my next location for
further questioning.

I have not yet found or determined the "optimal" damper lever spring tension,
if one exists. I would assume if damper springs were over tension, a number
of "touch related" changes would be found.

The very "antigravity" nature of upright pianos gives me more to think about.

Reason to look, is unreasonable if you 've found what you're looking for.
I'll keep my light on, and the knife put away.
