My brother went through the mill on this one. Things were very polarized between him & his wife. Her side came up with some incredibly high evaluation for his business. His best response was to get one of the most eminent local technicians (instructor at a prominent piano tech school etc.) to give his evaluation and testimony as to the value of the business. Her side looked at a recent year with several Steinway rebuilds and tuning work which had the gross near $100K; the net was far lower (refinishing & soundboard work had been subcontracted out), but her lawyers didn't see it that way. My brother still has his business, but he did go through personal bancruptcy a couple years after the settlement & child support used all his resources. So get the most prominent local opinion to do the evaluation, but more importantly, have a good lawyer who knows the local law & practice. Best wishes ... things WILL get better eventually .. Patrick
