Simple geometry. As Del mentioned this will vary from section to section so some nice angle and bubble levels are good tools to have. As Del says these are not fixed angles but basic guide lines. 7 degrees sound excessive to me except in some unusual situations but if that is the angel of rise to the first bearing point then by all means use it. Once you have the angles on the plate then you have to replicate those angles on the bare block to account for any variations in thickness or taper of the plate. Are we having fun yet? Newton
