Sorry, I wasn't very thorough with my explanation. I use one of a few 1/4"
plexiglass blocks too, with 6 #6 bridge pins slip fitted in the holes. The
clear block lets me see my reference marks or pattern for positioning, and a
light tap on the top of each of the pins marks the hole locations. A second
pass through the entire bridge (maybe five minutes time) with my single
punch shapes the marked dimples better for drilling.

Good point from Jim K about having the bit spinning when you go in too.
That's just one of the advantages of drilling on the drill press when possible.
