Thanks to all replies to my original question of rep lever green goop and the effect on regulation. I did remove the stack again, flipped it over and cleaned the slots as best I could (I tried devising different shaped 'scrapers' to get in the rather awkward place), Dremeled the springs, McLubed the slots, and reset the spring strength.
