John,

Why worry about cents? A 2 Hz difference will always create 2 beats per
second, as long as you are listening to the fundamental.

You can use F2 to check that it is the fundamental that is beating. Tune F2
to your 440 fork, then tune A-4 to give 2 beats per second with both the
fork and F2.
