Tightening coils on sloppy restringing

Just to add my own 2 cents worth, the best tool  I've ever used to keep coils 
tight, is  one leaf of Bellows Springs.  Separate the two and with the fork 
facing away from you, grind down the left tooth some.  You can get under the 
coils quit well.  This might be a little hard on the hands, but you can wrap 
the top in tape or even make a handle, but it works great.
