In one old upright I was restringing, I found tuning pin shims, you know the metal type that should be used for fishing weight only. Well, no oversize pin would be tight enough for the piano. I first used epoxy, filled the holes, waited a day or two and then redrilled. I found that this would work for me. The drilling process would heat the epoxy, making it softer and then the pins would have a very mushy feel. In the end, I did have to use pin-block plugs 1/2¨, redrill and used #2 pins. This was an open block so it wasn't so bad. Since then, I only use CA for old klunkers that don't have enough torque. So far I like the results. I find the feel while tuning is almost like tuning in a good sound block. I don't use the accelerator and only in some cases did the fumes annoyed me. Now don't get me wrong, if I stay close enough to the pins while I apply the hot stuff, I will get the smell and the red eyes. But when I stay about 2 or 3 feet away, I'm OK. Marcel Carey, RPT
