Dampp Chaser

Matthew,

You may get different responses to your question. There can be a good bit
of variation in the installation of Dampp-Chaser systems for grands,
depending on the size of the piano, layout of the beams, amount of
variation in the room's humidity, etc.

In my opinion, a system can be considered complete without a heat bar under
the action, but there may be some instances where it is a good idea. I
would install one there only if high humidity seems to have an adverse
effect on free response of the action or the regulation. I don't recall
that I have ever installed a bar under the action. Several years ago I
began servicing a Yamaha grand that already had a bar there, and the tuning
pins were loose, so I disconnected it.
