Observations on Tuning

I first learned tuning without pounding, trusting hammer technique to do
the work.

When I was introduced to pounding it seemed like a violence, but I took
the lesson.

The first time I used pounding, (an old Steinway M), I broke a flange!!
So reluctance was great.

With time and experience and based upon the situation, I now use
pounding, more to prove my 'set' than to get it there, but I don't use it
all the time.

I used it for my tuning test, and scored 100% in stability.

It is a wise tool in our repertoire.
