David,

You've gone beyond me, very well.

I would have progressed into the check writing/bill paying phases, except
my wonderful wife does that stuff, and won't go near the computer. So I
save MY time by letting HER do it.

I am driven to do my books about once a month by the necessity of Sales
Tax. It takes me maybe an hour and a half. I do not bother with
addresses and phone numbers in the QB files, which makes my entries quite
efficient.

I use a Paradox database for handling clients, locations, routing, tuning
due dates, makes and models, phone numbers, calling frequency, etc. etc.
Frankly the Paradox can do many of the things that QuickBooks can do,
especially if you link it with its sister program, Quatro-Pro. However
my mind runs out of RAM when I try to imagine getting these programs to
do it all, so I use the two systems separately. Maintaining that file
takes two or three hours a month, I think?!

However, getting my programs 'trained' and my memory holding on to how I
'trained' them took ...... Lord only knows ..... how much time.

There are some very good Piano Tuning business software programs out
there that I got samples of and toyed with, but that means I would have
to learn something else, again, when I already have a pretty adequate
method, so I've never been tempted enough to buy one. Also, I did not
see the accounting depth that I've come to lean on in QB. I could be
wrong, however.

If I were starting from scratch, I would certainly look into them.
