Hi Don, There are a number of ways to handle this situation. Put the whole thing in a microwave and heat for 20 seconds, take it out the test the glue joint. Keep doing this at 20 second increments until it comes apart. Will not hurt the hammer (as if it was possible in the first place). Take a pair of diagonal pliers and cut and nibble the butt off. If you have the tool cut the shank off and splice it to a new piece. Use a shank puller with a clamp around the shank. This is a good way to split a shank but it may well come apart before the shank does. Sit in front of it and stare at it. Maybe it will come apart on it's own. Newton
