Bob, considering the vintage, I think your suspicions of a hybrid finish
are correct -- but not on the same individual piece. IOW, color urethane
cover coat over polyester base on some parts, lacquer on others. 

For speed and color match you might want to try 'RM-400' automotive lacquer
instead of fooling with the urethane.
