Sustain pedal plastic

Hi again, Bill

>>She called and said that "with a bang" the sustain pedal broke. She said it
>>wasn't the metal pedal, nor the pedal bearings, nor the dowel, nor the
>pedal
>>rod, but the plastic piece that goes from the pedal to the pedal rod. White
>>plastic, snapped in two.

I saw a Yamaha today with a pedal problem which _might_ be what she meant:
the plastic (teflon?) turnbuckle joining the two threaded rods for the middle
pedal was found in the bottom of the piano. The small lower rod, which goes
through the pedal, had slipped to the side, so it was under the right (metal)
pedal lever. When you pressed the right pedal, it sort of worked, but half
way through the throw it felt stiffer and the middle pedal also went down.

It's (perhaps) conceivable that the turnbuckle has split in two, and she
got confused about which pedal.
