Dear List: A customer has acquired a 5 foot 1924 Marshall & Wendell Ampico grand (with "double legs") which needs to be completely restored. Now generally aware of what it would cost, he's looking to resell it. What is a reasonable wholesale price for him to sell to a rebuilder of reproducer/players? Is this a true reproducer, or merely a grand player piano? Can you recommend URLs, mailing lists, dealers, etc. which might be helpful in getting this piano to an appreciative owner? Gneral condition: Half tone flat. Low but tunable pin torque. Darkened lacquer finish over mahogany (?) veneer. 4-5 keys sticking due to debris or failing key bushings. Hammer wear not too severe except felt worn through in top 4 treble hammers. Board appears to have no cracks. Acceptable sustain. Ampico mechanism undisturbed but all tubes rotted out etc. TIA, Patrick Draine Billlerica, MA
