I've used it for keys with old adhesive from labels on them, 
and it works fine. You end up with some sticky crumbs, which 
you then have to wipe off, but it doesn't seem to harm the keytops, 
and it smells good. 

Even old, ossified adhesive comes loose with it, with a little effort. 

I use it full strength.
