Simple things: Damper height gauge

We had some fun with the key weights last week. Here's another one to chew on:

Damper Height (timing) Gauge(s)

This is one of many jigs that sets damper timing from the key, and/or
height, instead of using the damper tray.

I have seen (pictures only) of various types, but have never seen one in
person. I've seen triangles, square blocks, and longer, rectangular blocks,
usually made of hardwood, with the common link being the adjustable feet.
These are most always 3 or 4 capstans, depending on the overall design.

For damper timing from the key, (and since I already had the tools), I have
used the ancillary functions of either the a) string-height gauge -- the
type with a sharpened pin that punches a business card; or b) the damper
timer attachment to the Jaras portable regulating target. For damper height
from the tray, I've always used the tray, along with feather-footing the
damper pedal (method learned from factory).

I'd like to know your preferences/practices, why you think your method is
better, and, as applicable, description and measurements of any special
fixtures you use.

Looking forward to some interesting replies, and enjoy the [US] Labor Day
weekend!
