European hornbeam

I was wondering about the honbeam used in Renner parts and by Fazioli in
tenor bridge caps. What I've read about domestic hornbeam leads me to
think that the high expansion rates might tend to exclude it from these
uses, but its hardness and resistance to splitting seem otherwise ideal.
Have there been any piano-specific studies?
