Robin,
Boss to me is always the person who pays my invoice. There is no reason for this powerplay. If you don't want to change Steinway specifications because they seem to be right to you and the next tech might know more and solve the problem, you will have lost this and many other customers. Steinway and any other specs are guidelines for a new piano to function. The finesse and fun starts if you are able to "tune it up" to the drivers needs. With a new instruments it is easy.
This 10 year old might have extra challenges because of wear and tear and you need to know where to compromise from the original specs. If you are not an expert, the last thing to advise the player is: "You need to change your playing technique." The exception might arise, however, if the owner changed pianos from a grand to an upright. I hope you know what I mean.

Hi Jarred.
The 10 year old Steinway B would have a magnificent action and repetition
Tell your customer to get a life and adjust HIS playing to this piano and do
not fall into the trap of pampering to a piano player who obviously lacks
confidence in his technical skills.
When you talk to Techs who tune and service for the world class piano
players they will tell you that it is the up and coming (wish they weres)
that are the biggest pains in the butt.
He obviously was in dream land when his music teacher told him that you can
not play the keyboard from the bottom of the touch and that the key must be
allowed to rise at least a little before playing the next note.
This is your chance to show him who is boss in knowing how a keyboard is
supposed to be played.
If he convinces you to change regulation specifications now he will drive
you mad with his never ending requests for you to cover up for his lack of
technical skills.
He obviously has been a electric keyboard player.
Can not believe this guy
