For years I have charged for estimates, but refunded the estimate if the client required more then $200 worth of work. So if it a minor job, I'm paid for my estimate time. If a large job the client gets a small discount. I found this to completely weed clients with no intention of having work done, just wanting a free evaluation so they can sell the piano. I recently changed this policy, and just charge everyone equally for this service. I'm just too busy to give time away.. I see free estimates as a great promotional tool to help build a business. If a technician is established 20 years +, and has difficulty finding time for everything, why offer free services? Cheers Dave Renaud RPT
