Yes, I have seen it before.  And, yes, the glue was pretty crumbly and was
probably not all that effective as a filler.  I have also seen cases in
which it appeared the glue has some type of 'filler' in it.  I would guess
wood flour, but I couldn't be sure.  It had not held up much better.
