Thanks for the reply. I do recall the thread on this subject and will check
the archives. I do have a can of gloss varnish, but I don't think its spar.
I used it on a couple of uprights with great success. The looseness of the
pins is a bit un-nerving but both pianos tune well with consistent feel to
the fins-firm without being jumpy. I've got a grand underway that gets a new
pinblock and I'm anxious to try it.
