There isn't an awful lot that can be done with the plain strings without changing speaking lengths. Rescaling the wound strings, and possibly converting some plain to wound in the low tenor like Newton said, is where you'll make the most difference with the original bridges. Just keep the bass and overall tension similar to the original, so you don't get sucked into an imploding piano when you're pulling it up to pitch.. Ron N
