Tom,
Try "The Piano Technician's Guide". I am sitting here holding one and I
must thank Newton for writing it. I've been using it for years and it is the
most useful piece of reference material I have! I usually have to add an
additional 1/3 to estimated time required to do various jobs tho'! I don't
have the speed that some of the RPT's have.
On the note of PTG membership- Join immediately if not sooner! Even if
you don't attend chapter meetings and conventions ( but I suggest you do )
you will learn more in a year of Guild membership than you will ever learn
from books and self-instruction. The Journal alone is worth the price of
membership. There are also some good insurance plans available to members.
You absolutely must attend a national convention to fully understand the
level of expertise in our trade and where you fit into the food chain. It
can be a pretty humbling experience! You will however, become a better
technician as a result.
