The spring action comes from the coil only. That being the case the only way to regulate these springs is to wind or unwind the coil by loving the two arms of the spring together or away from each other. Once you realize what has to be done the rest is just time and patience. They CAN be regulated and very well indeed in a short order once you have acquired a bit of skill with the understanding.
