taste and playing

Hi Jay,

Why should good taste require the ability to play the piano at a medium
level of competance? Especially as most pianists have *rotten* ears
compared to most other instrumentalists? I agree a good musician is more
likely to be a good tuner, but I don't subscribe to the idea that they must
be a pianist at all.
