Hi Kieth,
             To add to your comment, false beats, poor seating and
levelling of strings, also adds to the problem.
     Lets face it,  it is also a problem aurally. The machines filters can
get confused just like our ears.
   Moral of the story treat the problem not the symptom.
Just my take on the subject.
