One way: Ivories are customarily comprised of two pieces, a head and tail.
This is apparent by a fine line between the two.  Whereas plastic keys are
one piece with no fine line.

Another way: There is usually a grain appearance, and sometimes texture, of
varying degrees in the ivory pieces, whereas with plastic, not usually at
all.

There are exceptions in the piano industry.
