Perhaps we are referring to a different type of air conditioning often used
in dry climates.  These are evaporative coolers that actually work by
blowing over a filter that is kept saturated with water.  Some folks refer
to these as swamp coolers.


These types of coolers actually do add moisture to the air which would be a
good thing in an extremely dry climate.  So perhaps we are all right, but
just talking about coolers that work in different ways.
